TEST CARRIED OUT BY QUALIFIED SANITARY PERSONNEL AT YOUR HOME

Our services include the visit of a nurse at your home, if the test so requires. You can have all tests performed without leaving the house comfortably, quickly and safely.

The COVID-19 PCR test determines whether or not there is an active infection. Especially indicated in the early stages of infection, when symptoms have not yet developed.

The ELISA test determines if the person has overcome the disease and has acquired natural immunity against the virus.

Immunochromatography antibody tests are performed through a capillary blood sample, which detects antibodies produced against the infection.

We work with the best approved laboratories for analyses.

FREQUENT QUESTIONS

WHAT ARE CORONAVIRUSES?

These are a very extensive family of viruses that can cause disease in both humans and animals. The type of coronavirus that we are experiencing as a pandemic today is called COVID-19 and affects humans only. The main coronavirus infections are respiratory, ranging from a common cold to more serious respiratory diseases. COVID-19 is an infectious disease previously unknown up until before the outbreak in Wuhan, China in December, 2019.

SYMPTOMS OF COVID-19

According to the World Health Organisation “The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness and dry cough”. Some patients may have other symptoms such as aches or pains, headache, loss of sense of taste or smell, sore throat, diarrhoea, or conjunctivitis. These symptoms are usually mild and appear gradually. The majority of people (around 80%) recover from the disease without the need of hospital admissions or special treatments.

People experiencing fever, cough, and shortness of breath should seek medical attention..

WHAT IS THE CORONAVIRUS TEST?

The reference technique used to detect the COVID-19 virus is the PCR. This method allows detecting a fragment of the genetic material of a pathogen or microorganism, however small it may be; thus, this test is capable of detecting initial stages of the disease.

There are other tests such as the ELISA, and the Immunochromatography kit that detect the antibodies produced by the person’s immune system. There are two types of immunoglobulins, IgA/IgM, that emerge in order to fight the infection around day 5 after symptoms appear; and IgG, which last for life—these are the ones that provide protection against the disease.

WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE FOR SAMPLE TAKING?

The procedure for collecting the sample depends on the type of test you want to perform.

In the case of the PCR test, the sample is taken using a nasopharyngeal and/or oropharyngeal exudate by qualified personnel at your home or at your company’s facilities.

This is done using a nasal swab, which is inserted into the nostril, and is rotated several times for adequate sample taking.

After collection, our staff will ensure that the samples arrive at the laboratory as soon as possible and in perfect condition.

In the case of antibody tests (ELISA and the immunochromatography kit), the sample is taken by capillary blood collection. This is done by a small prick on the fingertip.

WHAT RESULTS CAN I GET WITH THE PCR TEST?

Positive test: Indicates that the COVID-19 virus is present at the time of sample collection. It detects early stages of the infection and indicates that the person is in the active phase and has a high level of contagion. Social isolation for two weeks and clinical monitoring is recommended. It is also recommended to repeat the test in two weeks and also perform the ELISA test to determine if the person has become immunised.

Negative result: Indicates that, at the time of sample collection, there is no presence of the COVID-19 virus. It is recommended to perform the IgA/IgM and IgG antibody test in case the person could have overcome the disease and has become immunised.

False positives or negatives: in some cases, deterioration or contamination of the sample may alter the results. In such a case, it would be recommended to perform the test again.

CAN I GET A NEGATIVE RESULT ON A COVID SCREENING TEST AND, LATER ON, A POSITIVE RESULT?

A negative result in one of the tests means that, at the time of sample collection, the person did not have the COVID-19 infection. This does not mean that this same person cannot be infected in the future, so it is recommended to repeat the tests every so often.
